Coworking Isn’t Just for Extroverts

Not every coworking member is looking for conversation. Some simply want to be in the orbit of inspiring people.

When people think about coworking, they often picture networking events, coffee chats, and people constantly exchanging ideas. And while those things certainly happen, they are not the reason everyone joins a coworking space.

I often describe myself as an extroverted introvert. I genuinely get energy from being around people, but I also crave alone time. I imagine that’s true for many of us.

Years ago, when I was working as a writer from home, I found myself feeling increasingly isolated. I loved the flexibility, creating my own schedule, and not having to commute. But over time, I realized I missed something I hadn’t expected to miss.

I missed being around people.

Not because I wanted to talk all day. Not because I wanted to attend networking events every week. I simply missed the energy of being near other people who were creating, building, solving problems, and pursuing meaningful work.

I wanted to be in the orbit of inspiring people.

That realization became the main inspiration behind ModernWell.

Remote work, start-up ventures, and small companies trying to save money by avoiding the overhead of an office all offer many advantages, but they can also make our worlds feel smaller. The commute becomes a walk from the bedroom to the kitchen table. Conversations become messages on a screen. Days can pass without the kind of casual human interaction that helps us feel connected and alive.

Many people don’t necessarily miss an office. They miss being around people.

That’s one of the most misunderstood benefits of coworking. You don’t have to be outgoing to benefit from it. You don’t have to attend every event or introduce yourself to every person in the room. There is no single right way to be part of a coworking community.

At ModernWell, we have members we lovingly call the “Mayors of ModernWell.” They thrive on attending events, making introductions, sharing ideas, developing friendships, creating business collaborations, and connecting with virtually everyone who walks through the door.

We also have members who come for a different reason. They work remotely, run businesses, write, consult, create, or simply need a beautiful place to focus. They may spend most of the day quietly working with headphones on. They aren’t looking to network or fill their calendars with coffee meetings. They simply appreciate getting out of the house, being greeted when they walk in, and absorbing the positive energy around them.

We often underestimate the impact our surroundings have on us. When you are surrounded by people who are building businesses, writing books, launching ideas, leading teams, and creating meaningful work, something shifts. You feel more motivated. More focused. More connected to your own work.

Not because anyone is telling you what to do, but because energy is contagious.

For some people, community means attending every event and knowing everyone’s name. For others, it means having a familiar place to work, recognizing a few friendly faces, and knowing they are not alone.

Both are valuable.

That is what we love about ModernWell. Members can engage in whatever way feels right for them. Some find clients and referral partners. Some build friendships. Some create accountability relationships. Some come for the programming and events. And some simply enjoy being surrounded by people doing interesting things.

So if you have been working from home and wondering whether coworking is for you, know this: you don’t have to be the loudest person in the room. You don’t have to become a networking expert. You don’t have to feel pressured to chit-chat with others or attend events.

You can come as you are.

Bring your laptop. Choose a quiet corner. Take the meeting. Write the proposal. Work on the business. Allow the energy around you to elevate you and inspire you to do your best work, or simply help you stay motivated on days when you are “not feelin’ it.”

Sometimes the greatest value of coworking is not what you do in the space.

It is how you feel when you are there.

Welcomed.

Inspired.

Focused.

Connected.

And reminded that even when you work independently, you don’t have to work alone.
