The Magic of ModernWell

Who we are

What happens when inspirational women gather to work, create, connect, and renew?

We call it ModernWell Magic.

ModernWell was born out of a passion to create a community centered around women’s needs—a bright, warm, comfortable space where members are inspired to unleash their creativity and empowered to achieve personal and professional success.

We warmly welcome individuals of all gender identities and expressions at both our Minneapolis and Wayzata locations. Our members include entrepreneurs, creatives, wellness professionals, nonprofit leaders, and industry experts from diverse backgrounds and at every stage of life and career. Some are launching bold new ventures, while others seek balance, clarity, or simply a space to recharge.

The ModernWell Story

As the Twin Cities’ first female-centered coworking community, ModernWell is much more than a building or a workspace.

ModernWell is a community where thousands of Twin Citians gather to work, network, learn, grow, create, and take care of themselves and each other.  Our Minneapolis location was founded in 2018 by Julie Burton, an author, podcaster, and wellness advocate. She designed ModernWell to be an inspirational workspace, offering both private and communal coworking options, as well as ongoing professional and community engagement opportunities. Our modern, zen-inspired design is an inspiring yet comfortable atmosphere ideal for working and hosting professional and social gatherings.

In late summer or early fall of 2025, ModernWell will open its second location in Wayzata, extending its core values of connection, community, and inspiration to the heart of the West Metro.

Meet Our Founder

Julie Burton’s professional mission is centered on one driving force: empowering women.

ModernWell was a lifetime—and a lifeline—in the making for our founder and CEO, Julie Burton. She yearned for a space like ModernWell as she struggled to find a work-life balance while pursuing her writing career and raising her four children.

In 2016, Julie published The Self-Care Solution: The Modern Mother’s Must-Have Guide to Health and Well-Being to shed light on the challenges of balancing motherhood and career—offering a practical blueprint that begins with prioritizing self-care. Her writing and insights on self-care, motherhood, and entrepreneurship have been featured in the Associated Press, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Inc. Magazine, and on both local and national radio and television news outlets.

After the launch of her book, Julie recognized a need to create a space that fostered greater creativity, community, and connection. She founded ModernWell in 2018, which became the Twin Cities’ first female-centered co-working community and event center.

In addition to founding and serving as CEO of ModernWell, Julie is the co-founder of the Twin Cities Writing Studio and co-creator of the podcast Her Next Chapter. Julie’s collaborative spirit, entrepreneurial mindset, and dedication to supporting others have helped nurture the launch and growth of several start-up businesses that began at ModernWell and continue to thrive beyond its walls.

She is also a proud mom of four fabulous adult humans and one adorable dog, Scooby, that she raises alongside her husband of 32 years. If you’re looking for her, she’s likely at ModernWell building community, out walking her beloved dog Scooby, or tucked away with a good book—or writing one of her own.
